During the summer season, a trip to the Aegadian Islands, famed for their charming little creeks, caves, beaches and turquoise waters, is a treat not to be missed. The Achipelagus forms today the largest maritime reserve in Europe and includes the islands of Favignana, Levanzo, Marettimo, Formica and Maraone. Ferries and hydrofoils leave daily from the port of Marsala, but it is also possible to rent a small boat or negotiate a bespoke one-day cruise of the islands with a local fisherman. Being only a few minutes off the coast of Sicily, Favignana and Levanzo are the most popular tourist destinations, whereas the more remote and secluded island of Marettimo is situated some 37 km from the mainland.
