The scenic landscape of the lagoon of the Stagnone, with its characteristic sea-salt mines and windmills is one of the most evocative, although perhaps not of the most well-known, of the island of Sicily.

This area of pristine beauty, still untouched by mass tourism, boasts golden beaches, crystal-clear waters and a luxuriant countryside.

Protected as a Natural Reserve since 1984, the Stagnone is characterized by placid and shallow waters, which means it is an ideal destination for a family holiday.
To this, steady winds add up to make it a perfect destination for lovers of wind and kite surfing as well.

Numerous species of migratory birds – amongst them elegant herons and flamingos – flock to the reserve already at the beginning of the fall. For nature lovers therefore the area surrounding the lagoon is an enchanted place all year-round.

With their varying intensity the winds grant a welcome respite from the hottest summer nights, while the warm, shallow waters of the lagoon are ideal for an early dip already at the beginning of Spring.

Numerous the tourist attractions nearby: Motya, Marsala, Erice, Segesta, San Vito Lo Capo, the Aegadian Islands, Selinunte are only a few of the numerous destinations famous for their art, history and natural beauty, and we will be happy to advise on how to best reach them.

The local cuisine is surely amongst the unmissable attractions of this area: delicious, simple dishes, based on freshly-caught fish and seasonal, local produce, are matched by some of the most renowned wines produced on the area (Florio, Donnafugata, Pellegrino and Rallo are just the most famous brands).

The B&B Laguna dei Fenici (The Phoenician Route, after the Phoenicians who discovered the beauty and fertility of this area long before the Romans came along), opposite the isle of Motya on the road that borders the lagoon, is just literally a few steps away from the water and offers a huge panoramic terrace, solarium and mature gardens in a tranquil and jaw-dropping setting.
